UNTOLD Festival, the untold story of Transylvania on chapters:
production, budget, safeguards, and access payment system.
production, budget, safeguards, and access payment system.
UNTOLD Festival, the most awaited festival of 2015 in Romania, is approaching fast. For four magical days, during 30th of July-2nd of August the most beloved electro-dance-music artists from around the world will share for the first time the same stage: AVICII, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta and DIMITRI VEGAS & LIKE.
Untold Festival means more than 170 artists, 8 main stages, four days with a program loaded with over 80 hours of music and lots of activities during the day. The uniqueness of the festival from the very first edition, includes the fact that the most beloved electro-dance-music artists will share the same stage for the first time in Cluj-Napoca. The public also has the opportunity to enjoy both the festival atmosphere and facilities of city life, an estimate number of 300,000 people being expected for the the entire festival.
„We are happy that we have by our side representatives of local and county authorities and we welcome their involvement in the festival organizational aspects related to protection measures, the festival prevention and first aid. Festival’s breadth and size requires certain safety measures that have been estimated using specialized people involved and we apologize to the locals for the possible annoyance " says Bogdan Buta, General Director at UNTOLD Festival.
“Cluj will benefit from this event in terms of image and from an economically and financially point of view. This major event of the European Youth Capital will definitely point out Cluj-Napoca on the European map and, why not, the big show-events of the world. I apologize to locals for restrictions, I can understand the criticism, but I hope that people understand that the benefits for the city and the community, are enormous and that these measures are necessary to ensure the safety of the event. I emphasize once again the ultra - temporary character of these measures. We are talking about 50,000 people - in the last months we had weekly meetings with representatives of police, gendarmerie, ISU, who will ensure public order and safety. We are ready, we will provide 24-hour transport during the festival and all necessary measures." Says Mr.Mayor Emil Boc.
"We are proud to associate with UNTOLD Festival and happy that through its support we can once again contribute to the development of the local community in Cluj-Napoca. Ursus is with UNTOLD Festival for two reasons. One reason is that UNTOLD Festival has the ambition to become the most important festival in this part of Europe, and as the king of beer in Romania we must honor the fun. Another reason, equally important, is that this festival is held in Cluj-Napoca and Ursus has a duty to this town where it was founded, a vibrant university town, with a special young energy. We appreciate the good cooperation we have had so far with the team of professionals involved in organizing the festival. We also enjoyed very good cooperation with the authorities. Ursus is part of the UNTOLD story, not only sponsoring the festival but also with a team dedicated to logistics" Ursus Breweries representatives said.
CHAPTER 1 – FESTIVAL’S IMPACT ON LOCAL COMMUNITY // BUDGET
Festival’s budget is 4.5 million euros obtained from private sponsorships, funding from the local budget (less than 10%, representing 400,000 EUR or the equivalent to 1.8 million lei), ticket sales and subscriptions.
The main categories of expenditure are represented by artists (approx. 2 million euro), production and technical needs (approx. 1.5 million), marketing and communication campaigns (500,000 euros) and related taxes incurred (600,000 euro, with 50% more than local budget financing).
Whether the locals are participating or not to the festival, the positive impact this has on the local level can be seen in the HORECA field, which registered an unprecedented demand for accommodation and the lack of capacity for hotel units in Cluj-Napoca is taken by locals who will become hosts for festivalgoers.
80% of traders are local ones and 4 of the festival scenes are provided by local suppliers. A new wave of tourists has been attracted in Cluj in the summer for at least 4 days. Thus 60% of the festivalgoers are outside Cluj, 15% are international and this year the students choose to spend the summer in the city, giving effervescence to it. Given that this city has the reputation as the host of UNTOLD Festival, in the international press is, we dare to say, unprecedented. Publications such as The Guardian, BBC, CNBC, Huffington Post, The Verge, I fucking love science, praised the “Pay with Blood” campaign, noting Cluj-Napoca and Transylvania in every article.
CHAPTER 2 – PRODUCTION
99% of those who work on a daily basis at UNTOLD Festival are youngsters. In the actual production of the festival are involved more than 5,000 people, (including 1,000 volunteers), out of which 50% of the human resources is from Cluj and 50% from other cities.
Logistically, the UNTOLD Festival highlights numbers such as 100 trucks needed to transport logistics, 700 toilets (including those from Cluj Arena, Sports Hall and environmentally friendly toilets), and 300 meters of linear bars. There have been 11 designed versions of the main stage and the final version is 18 m high, 70 m wide and requires 13 trucks of equipment (logistics, sound and structure), a total consumption of 1,099,400 watts, 120 loudspeakers, 533 lights and 306 sqm of video screening and its cost rises up to 400,000 euros. In the Mainstage production team we are happy to have with us experts who worked with Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Hardwell.
Safety measures taken accumulate a total of 23 points including mobile teams for first aid and interventions in case of fire (11 points for first aid, a mobile hospital that can treat 20 patients simultaneously, six mobile teams of firefighters and seven trucks).
