The Charlemagne Award, for young Europeans

The Cluj-Napoca 2015 European Youth Capital program is the winner project in Romania for “Charlemagne award for young Europeans 2015”. This program helped Romania to reach the final stage of the contest, being followed by 28 other nomination of projects from EU member states.

The project will be judged at a European level, by the European Parliament President, three deputies (MPs) and four representatives of International Charlemagne Prize Foundation. This year, the number of projects that have been submitted in the competition reached 350, from which 28 European projects have reached the final, including SHARE Federation's, Cluj-Napoca, registered project.

All of 28 finalists are invited in May 11th-14th, in Aachen, Germany, at the award ceremony of the first 3 projects, which will then proceed to the next stage. The 3 winners will be announced on 23rd April 2015.

The total value of the prizes given is 10.000 euros: 5000 euro for first place, 3.000 euro for the second place and 2.000 euro for the third place. The prizes include an invitation given to the winning teams to visit the European Parliament ( at Bruxelles or Strasbourg), in the autumn of 2015.

“Charlemagne award for young Europeans 2015” is an open contest to young people, aged between 16 and 30 years, and desires to encourage the development of a European consciousness among youngsters and to emphasize their participation in European social integration projects. The prize is given to projects realized by young people, who promote the understanding and development of a common sense European identity and who offer practical examples of Europeans living together as a community.

The competition, now in its eighth edition, is organized by the European Parliament and by the Charlemagne International Award Foundation, from Aachen. The winning projects of the previous editions include examples of cooperation between young people from different Member States- such as youth events, exchanges between young European online projects.

The winners of the 2014th edition were: “Our Europe”- a travel project, which took place in Denmark, “JouwDelft& Co”- a congress in the Netherlands and “Employment4U”- from Cyprus.

Cluj-Napoca is the first city in Romania, which obtained the European Youth Capital title. This title was won after an international competition, organized by the European Youth Forum, the most representative European youth structure. The responsibility for coordinating the program has been delegated by Cluj- Napoca City Hall, to the SHARE Federation Cluj-Napoca, a non-governmental structure, which consists, at this time, of 37 student and youth organizations.

The mission assumed by the European Youth Capital 2015 program is to strengthen the role and support the young people and the youth organizations in their active participation within the society change, through a process of sustainable urban development, responsible and inclusive, by sharing space, culture, work, vision, faith and well known European values, addressing topics such as youth empowerment, their support, mobility, structured dialogue and information in a program that lasts one year in Cluj-Napoca.
